The EOS 300 was a major success for Canon, the camera sold exceedingly well and dominated its market sector until it was replaced by its follow-up EOS 300V, Canon EOS 300 won the European Imaging and Sound Association Award 1999-2000. It's a great SLR to start you analogue journey with.
